Is iemt the same as emdr?

Updated: Jul 1, 2024

Different modalities work differently for different people. So you may need to try both. I offer a free 15 minute call to show you how IEMT is done and to let you experience the quick change and immediate benefits of this technique. While both release negative emotions, IEMT works on the memory, not just the emotion, so is more far reaching and permanent. There are also a few different eye movement patterns with IEMT, as it also works on identity aspects that are creating unhelpful beliefs and consequential actions. We also use the Patterns of Chronicity. This part is the most innovative, as unlike some other therapies, it gets to the underlying long term patterns, that keep people stuck from effective, positive change.

IEMT works on the premise that emotions become encoded, as we learn how to feel them from those around us. There would be no shame, if we were the only person on the planet, so that suggests some emotions are activated by a social construct in our minds. If we can learn an emotion (encode it) then we can unlearn it (decode it). We do this by allowing the eyes, which are connected to every area of the brain, to send memories to be processed by different parts of us that haven't looked at the memory before. It then has access to new information from all the other ways we have learnt to understand the world. It may surprise some people that they have far more resources than they realise. It is often due to the brain's tendency to distort, generalise and delete info (as a way to filter thousands of strands of incoming information), that we feel helpless or like we don't have the answers to our problems. It's hard to find the answers when there's a memory stuck in front of us, getting in the way of fresh information. So it's time to move it out the way. This technique shows that change is possible and you may have more resources than you realise.

The main difference I am aware of, from people telling me their experiences, is that EMDR requires accessing emotions more intensely than IEMT does, which makes IEMT the gentler, quicker approach. IEMT isn't re-traumatising people to get the results and takes a matter of minutes to help clients process memories and their corresponding emotions.

I use IEMT, NLP and conversational hypnosis combined, to guide the person through their issues smoothly and gently. I'm also training in Provocative Therapy for a year from October for CPD, so expect laughter in our sessions, as well as a few short-lived tears. The results I get from IEMT still surprise me sometimes! I believe everyone should have access to the life changing effects of IEMT and when I am asked to do sessions with someone else in the therapy profession, I invariably get asked if I can train them in it. It's that effective!

Take a look at my website. There are testimonials on the pages. Some of them we have just used IEMT and some I have used my other skills. But I'm very lucky to have trained in this technique, as it takes me to another level when it comes to change work.
